Welcome

Stephen King was born in Portland, Maine, on the 21st September 1947 and is an American author of contemporary horror, suspense, science fiction and fantasy and is recognised as one of the most famous and successful horror writers of all time.

In 1973, King sold his first novel, Carrie, and the book became a huge success after it was published in 1974.  Then came further popular titles such as  The Shining in 1977 which told the tale of the haunted Jack Torrance; The Stand in 1978 that described the story of biological warfare; the rabid St. Bernard Cujo in 1981 and the monstrous clown It in 1986.  He wrote a number of short stories that later combined into the novels Night Shift (1978), Different Seasons (1982), The Skeleton Crew (1985), Four Past Midnight (1990), Nightmares and Dreamscapes (1993), Everything’s Eventual (2002), Just After Sunset (2008) and Full Dark, No Stars (2010).

This blog has been set up not only for the purpose of a WEB 206 assignment for Curtin University but also as I am a big fan of Stephen King – the bookcases are overflowing!  In order to make the content manageable, not only for me but for also you, the reader, I’ve broken the blog down into era’s as he’s covered a lot of ground over his career and where possible I’ve provided information on the books that have been adapted into films and television series.

However, I certainly do not know all!  I openly invite any Stephen King fan to provide commentary and let me know when I’ve missed something.

Happy Reading.
